I survived Hurricane Patricia! No, I wasn’t in Mexico, but Hurricane Pattie made landfall in Los Angeles, Orlando, San Diego, and Pasadena over the past month.
Boy, have I got a lot of good stuff and amazing takeaways to share with you today.
Let’s jump right in – hold on to your hat!
SuperConference 2015
Earlier this month, I attended SuperConference 2015. This year’s event was focused on the rapidly growing field of cognitive improvement. I was amazed at all the new personal and affordable equipment available. It’s sort of shocking to realize that we have learned more about the brain and the nervous system in the last 15 years than in all of history combined!
Here are a few of the newest (and practice-friendly) innovations in brain enhancement:
- Biofeedback units focus on training the brain to an optimized state
- Transcranial Lasers delivered nasally improve cognitive brain function and have even been linked to help reverse Alzheimer’s
- Light frequencies combined with Binaural Beats provide a variety of benefits including overcoming bad habits, losing weight, and enhancing concentration
I have been using brain-based wellness in my practice since 2005, so I can attest to its effectiveness. (I love being a few steps ahead of the crowd!) It’s a great adjunct that improves clinical outcomes and patients love it!
Brain-based therapies can be used alone, or as an easy way to earn extra money (and add value) while the patient is doing another therapy. For example, a patient who is detoxing in a body wrap can also be listening to binaural beats, participating in light therapy, and entering a relaxed, Zen state.
This therapy can also be helpful if you’re running behind in your schedule. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal to keep your patients occupied and happy, instead of grumpy and fidgety, while waiting for you to catch up. They put on headphones, they close their eyes, and they enter another world.
Takeaway: Brain wellness provides a multitude of benefits to both your patients and your bottom line. It’s simple and affordable to incorporate into your practice, with the added benefit of increasing your cash flow. Get in touch with me and let’s see if its right for your practice.
BONUS: I was lucky enough to be able to bring my son with me to Orlando. He was actually able to attend a teen entrepreneurial training boot camp (which was awesome), and afterwards we got to spend some quality time together. We toured Epcot and took our first trip to The Magic Kingdom!
BONUS TAKEAWAY: I attend lots of events out of town and away from my family to learn about new technologies and resources for my clients. This time I wanted to incorporate some quality time with my son. If you’re not doing this already, I want to remind you how important it is to take a few consecutive days off (preferably out of town) at least once every quarter. The mind and the body need time away from work to rejuvenate and refresh!
Mindshare Mastermind
Two weeks later I was back on the road, headed to San Diego for The Mindshare Mastermind. Twenty-three of our members gathered for some incredible “mind expanding” activities that focused on breaking through barriers to success (among other super awesome outings!).
The most terrifying and memorable activity of the weekend for me involved breaking a board… with my fist! Impossible, right? In fact, I was absolutely certain I was not going to be doing this. I had conjured up every excuse why it would be out of the question for me. “My wrists hurt, I’ll break a nail, I’ll sprain my elbow…” You name it, I was poised to give my “reason” for not participating.
But then something funny happened. I began to feel stronger as I watched all of the other participants break their boards without any issue. I knew if I didn’t try it, I would always wonder if I could have broken my board, too.
So, I stepped up to the plate, raised my first, and broke that board like it was butter!
It was an empowering experience that I highly recommend incorporating into an event as a confidence-boosting, team-building exercise.
Takeaway: A healthy dose of fear is a good thing. As author Veronica Roth says, “Fear doesn’t shut you down; it wakes you up.”
2015 BulletProof Biohacking Conference
And as if that wasn’t enough…! This past weekend, I went up the street to Pasadena where the ingenious Dave Asprey was holding his third annual biohacking conference.
I was really excited to see my friend Dr. Tami Meraglia speak about her Nationally Best Selling book The Hormone Secret, in which she discusses how testosterone can be an important, and overlooked, part of the aging process for women. The right dose can actually help women lose weight, increase energy, enhance skin tone, and so much more.
Takeaway: Supporting your friends, colleagues, and fellow health-preneurs is important. Whenever you’re able to – stop by an event, promote an upcoming webinar, or even send a good luck email. Working together is how we’re going to make the biggest impact…and change the world!
Just Like My Child Foundation Annual Gala
To finish off this incredible month, I attended the Just Like My Child Foundation Annual Gala to raise money for a great cause: to empower and improve the life’s of young girls everywhere. It was a beautiful event and wonderful evening spent with old friends and new.
Takeaway: Be grateful for your blessings every single day, and when you’re able to, spread kindness to others in any way you can.
November Waits For No Woman!
October has been nonstop… but in a good way. And guess what? I’m off again! Destination? Nashville, Tennessee, where I’ll be speaking for doctors, chiropractors, and other incredible individuals in the health and wellness space.
Oh, wait! There’s more! I’ve got my own table at this year’s League of Chiropractic Women Success Summit. I went all out and even created my very own prize wheel, and I’m giving away my best practice-building tools.
Really? All that in just ONE month!?
